GEAR UP, or “Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs” is a national college access initiative which targets middle and high school students and helps prepare them for entry into postsecondary education. The branding for GEAR UP North Carolina needed to be straightforward, yet playful enough to reach both target audiences: families, teachers, and young students. Using balanced, high-contrast, vivid tones and a sans serif typeface UNC Creative has created a brand that reflects the goals and personality of the initiative. In addition to branding, UNC Creative was asked to create other collateral using the new brand such as a pocket folder. This folder utilizes a subtle spot varnish pattern underneath a embossed logo on the front.
